In CMOS-Technologie ist der Z80 bis heute lieferbar.<br /> <br /> Er entstand kurz nachdem Federico Faggin die Firma Intel verlassen und seine eigene Firma Zilog gegründet hatte. Bei Intel hatte dieser am 8080 gearbeitet.<br /> <br /> Im Juli 1976 wurde der Z80 auf den Markt gebracht. Er wurde entwickelt, um binär abwärtskompatibel zum Intel 8080 zu sein. Dadurch liefen die meisten Programme ohne Änderungen darauf, insbesondere das CP/M-Betriebssystem.<br /> <br /> Der Zilog Z80 wurde in allen [[CPC]] von [[AMSTRAD]]/[[SCHNEIDER]] eingesetzt.
